The First Year

My boy, you have just turned ONE, and what a year it’s been for all three of us. An unforgettable year for sure, despite the almost constant tiredness and sleep deprivation (you still don’t sleep through, and it’s ok). Some of the memories are getting a bit fuzzy but that’s why I have the camera, and I am so very grateful for this ability to capture the fleeting moments, and your amazing growth. And boy, you’ve grown. Teddy looks rather shrunk by month 12!

The Early Birds

He wakes up early. Really early. Normally before the sun makes its appearance from behind the horizon line. Some days I cannot really function until a couple of hours later, so I just sit there with my tea and watch him play happily with his toys (somehow he is more interested in his toys first thing in the morning). But some days I feel awake enough to load him into the pram straight after breakfast and to go for a long, lovely walk in the neighbourhood. It is my favourite kind of light at that time of the day, so I make sure I grab my camera on the way out, and off we go, to enjoy the coastal views (me) and the empty playground (him), and chasing an occasional duck (him again).

And when I look at these photos, I see that being the early birds is so worth it.

On a Lazy Sunday Morning

This is my new favourite thing to do. To wake up really early on a Sunday morning (well, when you have a ten month old, you wake up early whether it was in your plans or not), get out of the house while the sun is still low in the sky, and walk slowly along the water’s edge, feeling the coolness of it wash over our feet. To stop to admire the bright yellow flowers, to breathe in the fresh, salty air. And then, to end up at one of the local cafes and enjoy a cup of coffee, beautiful light, and being with my favourite people. It only takes us an hour or so, but it’s the best hour of our weekend. The quietest, the simplest, and the most energizing.

Captain Adorable is surely cute! Such a beautiful morning walk.

He Loves the Beach

My little water baby, oh how happy you are when we take you to the beach. The expectation of the incoming wave makes you scream on top of your lungs from excitement, the feeling of sand going through your fingers makes you stop and sit still for a moment, and some of the biggest smiles you give us happen right there, out in the elements.

You are still not sure about the whole hat plus sunglasses business, but we are working on it.

And my camera is always with me when we go to the beach, because I want to capture this joy of exploring, of learning new, wonderful things.

Above Sydney

A couple of weeks ago, on a beautiful Sunday morning, we did a very touristy thing – we went up Sydney Tower to enjoy the views (with a voucher we had to use). And, as usual, Sydney wowed us. Big time. We’ve been up there many times, but every single time I look out those windows, my heart beats faster – what a stunning place it is. What a beautiful city. The little one enjoyed it too, and he even braved the 4D experience before we went up, water being sprayed at us, loud sounds, 3D goggles, motion and breathtaking scenery of Sydney and surrounds shot from the air. One fearless baby!

Here are a few little snaps from that day:
