A Beautiful Day

“Come live with me and be my love,

And we will some new pleasures prove,

Of golden sands, and crystal brooks,

With silken lines and silver hooks”

– John Donne

Back in the beginning of march I travelled to lovely Adelaide to capture the wedding of Nicola and Rene which turned out to be one of my most favourite days ever. Brilliant sunshine, sweet emotions, gorgeous bride and a very loving groom, a plethora of breathtaking backdrops… Rene was very sweet to drive me to the locations in the morning before the wedding, which a) made my job to capture the day’s unfolding moments so much easier and b) got me literally squealing with delight after visiting one stunning place after another. Seriously, it takes you only twenty minutes to drive from a very stunning historical courthouse through McLaren Vale vineyards and apple orchards and olive groves to the most beautiful beach in Port Willunga.

The ceremony was held on the grounds of Willunga Courthouse and Slate Museum, where Nicola and Rene exchanged vows in front of their closest friends. Have you ever been to a wedding with seven guests only? I have, and it was p.e.r.f.e.c.t.

We then took a few pictures on the grounds of the courthouse (loved the cobbled courtyard!), loaded into the Mustang, and drove off to Port Willunga stopping many times along the road to capture some sweet emotion of that day.

The small and super-cozy reception happened at Star of Greece restaurant perched on a cliff high above the beach.

A few moments after arriving to the restaurant we descended to the beach and stepped onto the soft sand to watch the sun setting into the sea, and two beautiful people in love danced in the golden rays of South Australian sunshine.

[…] Willunga, combining the perfect beach setting, and the happiest memories of photographing these two gorgeous people celebrating their wedding day in this particular […]

South Coasting

“As you sit on the hillside, or lie prone under the trees of the forest, or sprawl wet-legged by a mountain stream, the great door that does not look like a door, opens”

Stephen Graham

We have been coming to the South Coast for many years now, after falling in love with the green rolling hills, the long stretch of Seven Mile beach, winding mountain roads, crystal waterfalls, general peacefulness, and cherry pies from Robertson pie shop. It only takes you two hours to get there from Sydney, so no excuses for not doing that drive more often!

So last Sunday we made tuna sandwiches, packed a couple of hot cross buns and apples, and headed towards Kiama. And here is what we saw there:
If you have never been to that magical part of NSW, please go soon and feel that freedom and  peace that is so hard to find these days in our busy city lives.

Change of Seasons

“It is almost impossible to watch a sunset and not dream”

– Bern Williams

Summer for me means watching the sunset from our balcony every weeknight after I come home from work. La Nina made our summer wet and cool but she also brought out the best sunsets to compensate for the general miserableness many of us suffered from over the last few months. Which for me meant spending even more time outside watching the splashed reds and pinks and orange tones. And since I am addicted to Instagram many of those gorgeous sunsets made it to my Instagram feed.

Tomorrow morning daylight saving ends. It means that for the next six months when I come back home from work it will be pitch-black outside. No more sunsets except on weekends. I love autumn,  but I will miss witnessing the show that Mother Nature puts on for us every night.

Bye-bye summer.

Travel Flashback – Memories of Nepal

”Truly it might be said that the outside of a mountain

is good for the inside of a man'”

– George Wherry

Going to Nepal just over a year ago was one of the best decisions we have ever taken. We trekked in the Annapurna region of Himalayas for 6 days, without a porter or a guide, carrying the minimal basic stuff we needed plus I reckon around three kilograms (at least) of my photo equipment (and I had a very basic kit with me too, just a camera body, a couple of lenses, a very flimsy bright-blue tripod from my far-far away digital compact days, and a netbook).

We stayed in guesthouses with bank beds and lovely little “restaurants” as locals proudly called them. I miss that food, basic, honest, tasty. Got hooked on momos (Nepalese dumplings) but apparently almost every single person who went to Nepal and tried momos agrees that they are highly addictive. I was ready to have them for breakfast, lunch and dinner, extra helpings please.

At nights, over a cup of “hot lemon” tea, we chatted to locals, guesthouse owners and workers, open-hearted people with not many material possessions but a happy sparkle in their eyes. Their life is simple. But the Himalayas watch over them, rising high above it all, silent and strong and eternal.

That trip changed me in many good ways. And we will be back for sure.

A Hunter Valley Wedding – Tamburlane Organic Winery

This very relaxed and very lovely wedding happenned a few months ago in Hunter Valley.

The Hunter is a wedding paradise and one of my favourite places on earth (hmm, maybe it is something to do with wine and close proximity to Sydney!). Landscape, atmosphere, big open spaces, cosy wineries and cellar doors…  The bride was getting ready at the Mercure Resort, and we made the most out of the gorgeous backdrops in the courtyard. The ceremony and reception were held at Tamburlane organic winery which I absolutely love to visit every time we happen to be in the Hunter, so I was over the moon to be presented with a chance to shoot a wedding there.

The day was filled with emotion, the air was warm, and the vine leaves were young. My most favourite part of weddings as a photographer is spending time with the newlyweds at sunset, in the golden rays of light, capturing their love and emotion of the day. And that sunset was pure magic.
